EMDR
What is EMDR and is it right for me?
EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing) is a trauma‑informed therapy that helps the mind and body process difficult experiences so they no longer feel overwhelming or “stuck.” Many people come to EMDR when they notice that past events are still shaping how they feel, react, or relate to the world, even long after the moment has passed.
Rather than talking in detail about the experience, EMDR works by supporting your brain’s natural ability to heal. Through guided eye movements, tapping, or gentle bilateral stimulation, EMDR helps the nervous system reprocess memories that were stored during times of stress or threat. As these memories settle, people often notice more emotional space, fewer triggers, and a sense of relief where there was once tension or fear.
At its heart, EMDR is about helping you feel safer, more grounded, and more connected to yourself. It can be especially supportive for trauma, anxiety, low self‑worth, relationship patterns, and moments in life where you feel stuck or disconnected from who you want to be.
EMDR can be supportive for a wide range of experiences, including:
-
Trauma and PTSD
Single‑event trauma, childhood trauma, medical trauma, accidents, or experiences that still feel “unfinished.”
-
Anxiety and panic
Especially when anxiety feels rooted in past experiences or old patterns of fear.
-
Low self‑worth and self‑criticism
EMDR can help shift long‑held beliefs like “I’m not enough” or “I’m unsafe.”
-
Relationship patterns
Healing attachment wounds, emotional triggers, or repeating dynamics that feel hard to change.
-
Stress and overwhelm
When the nervous system feels constantly activated or on alert.
-
Grief and loss
Supporting the mind and body to process painful memories with more softness and space.
-
Phobias and specific fears
Helping the brain reprocess the root of the fear so it feels less intense.
